Update -- almost done!

I have been very, very delinquent in updating this blog!  I hit a wall just like last time with remodel fatigue and just wanting everything to be over.  They are busy installing the tile and knobs and handles today with final grouting soon and the hood to be installed so I figured I had better post the pictures I did take before it is time to put up final pictures.

Perimeter cabinets installed

Island installed

Coffee bar/Dry bar area on other side of kitchen

Countertops installed and that is one big island!

Speed cook over/microwave/oven installed

Just need refrigerator delivered but had to wait until third and final top coat was on hardwood floors

Countertop on the beverage center

Trying to figure out tile design using construction paper!
New window finally installed
Increased the size of the window from about 2 feet to 4 feet

Pantry done
Chris, Emma and I installed the new pendant lights -- with very little swearing!

Mud room/laundry room got a fresh coat of paint and Chris painted the cabinets white
After having the dishwasher, refrigerator and beverage refrigerator all squeezed in there for over a month it is nice to have the space back!
Laundry room used to extend for another 8 feet but now the pantry is in this space along with  refrigerator and ovens.  But I designed it so we still had room for a nice coat closet.
New Refrigerator is in finally and we are so close!

More drywall work and painting

Nothing exciting going on with the kitchen other than more drywall work.  The guy (Balla) is working today (Saturday) and then one more day on Monday with the final sanding and then painting on Tuesday before they start cabinet installation on Wednesday.  In the meantime Chris needed a project to do so he wanted to "freshen" up the paint in the office.  I still liked the color but I guess after 14 years you should switch it up!

I decided to go with BM Silver Marlin on the walls and BM Wolf Gray on the accent wall behind the bookshelves.  I am also trying a new paint from BM called Advance on the bookshelves.  It is supposed to be a harder finish and is good for painting cabinets and trim.  It takes 4-6 hours to dry and you have to wait 16 hours between coats for it to cure and then sand lightly also.  It will be interesting to see how it holds up and if it works I may try it on the old kitchen cabinets now in the basement.

Old Color
New Color - night time picture!

Works well with color in entryway but I may have to change this up too as it all has to be repainted!
Wall Color during the day next to new color behind bookshelves
One more coat needed on dark gray but I like it so far!

Painting the bookshelves

I always have helpers!

Floors are done, almost and cabinets delivered!

Edi's Flooring finished the floors on Tuesday and they turned out good.  They only did 2 out of the 3 top coats of varnish so they are not quite complete.  What this means is that we are "blessed" to continue living in the basement/2nd floor for awhile yet as we won't be moving furniture back for awhile.  Once they finish installing the cabinets and other things in the kitchen we will put the third coat on the entire first floor and then we have to wait for seven days after to put the furniture back.

Here are a few pictures of the floor.  I like how the color turned out and they actually look darker during the day than the pictures as I had all the can lights on and there is a glare off the floor.

This morning Amish Custom Kitchens delivered the cabinets!  From what I can see so far they appear to have done an awesome job on the cabinets.  I inspected the cabinets and they did a really nice job with all the details.  Both the painted finish and stained finish is really, really nice.  It is going to take some time to get used to self-closing doors and drawers!  I just love the walnut drawers and shelves -- so pretty!!

Upper cabinets but upside down :)

Painted base cabinet/stained base for island

Looks good next to newly stained floor

A room full of cabinets with a few in the garage!
The remodeling crew (one guy) from Perrity Construction is back today to finish all the drywall work so they are sanding and mudding.  I am hoping they will finish tomorrow so we can prime and paint the walls this weekend as they are installing the cabinets on Tuesday.

Hardwood Flooring

They installed the new red oak hardwood flooring today in the kitchen.  They had to piece it into the old flooring and the flooring guy, Edi, tried to pick out wood of similar grain.  No more ugly plywood to look at!

Pantry Floor

Chris and I are exhausted today as they originally said they wouldn't start sanding the other rooms until Wednesday morning but they were able to move so quickly they thought they might start today so we spent almost four hours moving the big, heavy furniture to the garage.  I won't mention who wanted to start this on Sunday as I thought it might take longer than we thought :)  But after that experience we will be hiring movers to move it all back in!

Week of January 15th

The week of January 15th was spent drywalling and mudding.  There was only a one man crew here so they didn't quite finish.  Saturday they had all three guys here and worked all day screwing down the subfloor good, moving a heat duct and adding one that will come out below the kitchen sink.  They also took down the walls of plastic on Saturday which created a large dustball with dust everywhere.  I was at a funeral so a big thanks to Chris and Emma for cleaning up.  But it was so awesome to finally see my vision with the wide open spaces and the flow from the front door to the family room.  Plus moving the door to the formal dining area really connects the living room/dining room to the rest of the house and allows for a much better flow.
